Magento in beta at Lokad

Published on by Joannes Vermorel.

Just a few days ago we announced Lokad's integration with Shopify. Today, it's the turn of another vastly popular content management system for e-commerce to become natively supported by Lokad as the native integration of Magento is now live in beta at Lokad.

This integration relies on Magento's REST API which has been supported since the version 1.7 which was released back in April 2012. The authentication relies on OAuth. The set-up requires a bit of configuration on the admin panel within Magento to grant access to a third-party app like Lokad. However, thanks to this set-up, you will have very fine-grained control as to which data Lokad can read or write (hint: we only need read-only access).

This integration is still in beta as we haven't yet properly tested our integration with the many versions of Magento that have been released during the last 3 years. Don't hesitate to give it a try though, and Lokad is here to help you get started in case you have any technical difficulties.

Magento add-on for BotDefender

Published on by Joannes Vermorel.

BotDefender logo BotDefender protects your store from the automated retrieval of all your prices by competitors and now, we have just released a free add-on for Magento.

Protecting your store has now its 1-click solution!

This add-on has been co-designed as a joint effort between Wyomind, our Magento specialist, and the Lokad team. In particular, we paid a lot of attention to the add-on performance. Indeed, the add-on should never to slow down any pages in order to preserve an optimal shopping experience.

The algorithmic strategy used to achieve a near-zero performance impact on the store is available here. In short, we are using a combination of deferred server calls and smart caching to prevent any blocking operation from the add-on, while keeping the extra cache burden very low - below 10MB even for large sites.

Stay tuned for more, BotDefender will soon be supporting other popular commerce platforms.

Magento extension for Salescast released

Published on by Joannes Vermorel.

The Salescast Connector on Magento Connect

The Salescast Connector on Magento Connect

Optimizing inventory is not just for brick & mortar commerce, it's a cornerstone of online commerce as well.

As a matter of fact, we have been receiving many integration requests between Salecast, our inventory optimization webapp and Magento - one of the most (if not the most) popular ecommerce software of the market.

While exporting data from Magento into the format expected by Salescast is not overly complicated, it's not trivial either, and as it requires some SQL skills.

Thus, we decided to move with Wyomind, a company that specializes in Magento extensions. As of today, Wyomind has just released its Salescast Connector. This extension takes care of

  • extracting the relevant data from Magento
  • formatting the data into the Salescast format
  • uploading (via FTP) the data to Salescast

Even better, the Salescast Connector schedules daily data exports; that way, your reports from Salescast are always up to date whenever you need them.

Concerning the pricing, Salescast comes with an Express Plan which is free and does not expire. This plan is compatible with the Wyomind extension, and as our Express Plan covers up to 10,000 items, it's sufficient for the vast majority of the smaller merchants. The Salescast Connector itself starts at 140€ as a one-time license fee.

Magento+youcalc, volunteer merchants needed!

Published on by Joannes Vermorel.

Inventory optimization is critical for eCommerce. In particular, we are already providing native support for Magento users through our Safety Stock Calculator.

Yet, a couple of people told us that desktop apps weren't always that practical. Indeed, since your store is online, why should it be different for your sales analytics?

Lately, we have been doing a bit of teamwork with the nice folks at youcalc. youcalc delivers on-demand analytics with a quite a few handy apps such as:

Thus, thanks to Rasmus Madsen (Founder at youcalc) and Martin Albertsen (youcalc), we have drafted a mock app that report stock covers:

Illustration of the integration process between Magento, youcalc and Lokad

Just check the live demo (1-click, no login, no registration).

At this point, both Lokad and youcalc are looking for volunteers among Magento merchants. Typically, we need people that would be willing to give a try to the real thing and spend a bit of time to tell us what they think about our product. This process will not require any technical skill or development efforts.

As token of thanks, volunteers will be

  • mentioned on the blogs of Lokad and youcalc when the app gets released.
  • granted 6-months of free access to Lokad and to the new app of youcalc.

This offer is limited to June 30th, 2009. In order to apply just send us an email to sales@lokad.com with Magento volunteer in the message title, and the URL of your Magento store in the body. If everything goes well, the final app will probably be released next fall, just in time to optimize your inventory right before Christmas 2009.
